Either would make a great gaming rig, the 4770K should more than suffice, as far as the world laughing, don't see it happening, right now the big joke the AMD 9590 that was what about a grand, and already down to $850 (and due for yet another price cut, that gets outperformed by a stock 4770K and left behind by an OCed 4770K or even a OCed 3770K, and that few to none are buying.
Actually it's $350 now.
That was more a "halo" product.
The reality is, the newest console architectures will push toward more cores, and Intel is not prepared for that. It won't be overnight this happens, though...in the next 12-24 months AMD hardware will be
the hardware in gaming.
Well it is prepared for it as its 4 cores outperform the 8 cores. Even developers for consoles are saying how hard it is to get the physics working as it can't really be broken up to pieces that easily for cores. Its like a nightmare for current developers but they say in the long run cpus that are performing badly like the 8 core amd cpus will improve as they are having to change completely how they develop to make it work on an entry level cpu. What this means is the 4 core intels current destroying of amd 8 cores in games will level out.
Intel have 6 core and next year 8 core which for gaming is a complete overkill. AMD are the cheaper option for rrp prices but for me I don't pay rrp prices I get them from resellers and my new build will cost £300 and easily beat your desktop at games and futureproofness. Its amazing how far intel are ahead though, if you said to me in late 2009 intel have improved this much performance and at this efficiency and there igpus I would have thought near impossible but intel have made the near impossible possible while amd have stood still and milked a really poor product in the piledriver cpus. I am even amazed how they could not improve since the phenom 2 cpus even at 32nm.
In fact I am failing to see how a cpu with ancient tech based memory controller half the speed of haswell, is in anyway futureproof. A 2.4ghz c2d level ipc when clocked at 4-4.2ghz for the fx8350 and lets not forget no igpu like intel and it being so power hogging for so little performance you would think we are not in 2013 but 2008.
Anyway to get back on topic an i7 4770k is an amazing product perfect for at least another 5 years. I always thought it would be amazing if intel released a beast of a cpu and sip so little power and the i7 4770k is that.
