Hi tom's hardware readers, i'm new at this forum, i'm about to build my new gaming pc, i mostly wish to Max out Metro 2033 and Crysis 3 on 2560X1440 Monitor. My plan is to get TWO GTX 780 this year, then add a third one at september next year. I was wondering if i can match a 4770K with this Rig OR if im forced (want or not) to buy 3930K to not bottleneck that 3 Way Sli.

Solution

I have no "agenda" hafijur is a renowned troll here, and I apologize for the fact that he wandered into your thread. Things happen sometimes.

I am a game developer...and i7's won't be able to compete with 8 core AMD chips, here's why:

1.) HTT uses resources for a core when that core is not busy to run an...

Nuts:no:

Actually this motherboard is one of my favorites in Style black yellow theme, but i'm very concerned about the Bottleneck scenario with this 3 way Sli. I wound't like to waste my money, i just have one chance to pull the trigger.

Only worked on 1 and it's not a bad mobo, if you get a good one, have seen heard of problems folks have encountered, Know it has trouble with higher freq DRAM in 64GB, 1866 is generally the max. As for 3 way SLI @ x8, the Z87 Extreme can do 8-16-8 in Tri cost about a $100 more than the GB you mention, but would save a couple $100 from the 3930K to the 4770K

Thank you Tradesman, but what do you really think, 4770K would be an absolute Bottleneck for 3 Way Sli GTX 780? I would be more than happy goin for Asus or MSI in Z87, but as i said im afraid from goin wrong way with 4770K for bottleneck risk :(

I've been waiting for a very very long time to upgrade my current Pc (Intel E8400 + GTX 260), i know 4930K is about to be released but is almost the same than 3930K in perfomance, anyway the range of options of MOBOS for Z87 is wider and nice looking, X79 has currently lack of options.

Ok according with logic, how much time could i hold with that 4770K and how much time with 3930K, about the same? I'm looking for something that last me 3 - 5 years, but if 3930K gonna last as much as 4770K , then i guess the choice is made.

Be forewarned...you will likely only get about 4.2 GHz out of the 4770k. If you're going to overclock the 3770k is actually better. 3770k @ 4.5 > 4770k @ 4.2

Pfft...you are the laptop king. Desktop PCs don't run on batteries...power consumption is not an issue.

However, don't listen to a game developer...go ahead and build your Intel system and watch the world laugh when they underperform in next gen games.

I know Laptops is a total different world, and as he said, i'm not care of 4770K power consuption when perfomance and costs is my real concern.

Either would make a great gaming rig, the 4770K should more than suffice, as far as the world laughing, don't see it happening, right now the big joke the AMD 9590 that was what about a grand, and already down to $850 (and due for yet another price cut, that gets outperformed by a stock 4770K and left behind by an OCed 4770K or even a OCed 3770K, and that few to none are buying.

Actually it's $350 now.

That was more a "halo" product.

The reality is, the newest console architectures will push toward more cores, and Intel is not prepared for that. It won't be overnight this happens, though...in the next 12-24 months AMD hardware will be the hardware in gaming.

When you say 4770K is an amazing 2013 product you gotta talk about the real amazing 2600K from 2011, not too much progress we had have since 2011, 2600K = 4770K in perfomance just cheaper to produce for intel. Same history with 3930K = 4930K. So release date is not relevant imo. I just saw a video of perfomance FX-8350 vs 3770K in gaming, even when FX-8350 close sometimes it fails most of time to the point of dissapointing. So as you, i cant see how it will suddenly become the Pro CPU for gaming, plus developers won't change the way they code games just because Sony made a contract with AMD.

Not sure where $350 - Newegg today: still $849 - the big thing with the consoles is that AMD practically is giving the 8 core CPUs to them to promote AMD and try to raise a buzz - don't see and can't find anything about anyone developing for 8 cores - so they basically are worthless - and I'm still chuckling about the 9590 - have no idea what AMD was thinking, they basically fed steroids to an 8350 and prob pulled the cream of the dies to get ones that could run at 5, pumped up with voltage and it's still a relatively slow performance wise....all this did was egg on the face of AMD......and this is to encourage folks to Steamroller - the 5GHz megalith get's beat by a stock 4770K - how are they going to promote a lower/slower SteamRoller against Intel - Are they going to pump it way up also like they did with the 8350

Let's see...it won't be good for 5 years anymore than anything else would. It doesn't sip power...at all. In fact it draws more than the 3770k under load...or have you forgotten that already?

I really wish you would refrain from trying to have a technical conversation...you can't seem to speak accurately about it at all.

Actually, as a Game Developer...I can assure you, within 6 months...there will be at least a dozen new titles using a minimum of 6 cores that are ports directly from consoles. Give it 12 months and that figure will be closer to 4 times as many.

They were thinking "We have 5 GHz factory bragging rights".

As for the 9590, it's less a display of "this is going to be amazing" and more a TWKR "look what we can do" situation.

Do you recall the TWKRs? If so, then you know they sold for $10k each with the aim at breaking world overclocking records specifically...

Actually, if you want to talk innovation...AMD64 was the single biggest innovation in the history of hardware. It started "the arms race"...
