pc come on but monitor doesnt

how can I tell if my card is bad or if it a update that stopped my graphics card from working,the fan still runs on it

Don't update through windows. DIsable that one. I bet windows messed up your GPU driver. Uninstall it then install a new driver for your ATI/Nvidia GPU.

Try it on another rig. You mean you've updated the mobo? or the GPU? What update are you talking about bro? :) If you updated something and it doesn't boot up, try resetting your mobo. Remove the CMOS battery for 20secs then place it back in then boot.

Microsoft updated on my pc as I was shutting down then my monitor didn't come back up I connected it to another pc an it worked fine so I cleaned the pc an unplugged the video card an the monitor worked without the video card so I plugged the card back in to my pc but monitor wouldn't come up again but the fan on the card was on,then I restored my pc to before the update an hooked it all back up an no monitor again. I unplugged the card an it works fine but not on some games an some office stuff is real slow or not working at all.it seems I may need a new video card, but that one is only a year or so old.also my performance rating went from a 5.3 to a 3.3
