If you took it apart without the help of the service manual, can you not put it back together? Google for the service manual for that manual and avoid the sites that want to sell you on. There will be a free one, preferably form HP's own site.
I remember working on one of these once and had to press a small pink button below the battery to release the top from the bottom casing but I also know I downloaded a manual because I never take a laptop apart without reading one.

This is the best one I could find http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01988326.pdf. Good luck but maybe next time you suspect the fan is locked, a can of compressed air squirted through the exhaust from the outside would be easier.
