Operating System won't boot. Unusual light on computer turned on. Help

When I turn my laptop on it goes to the screen with the gateway picture and it says "f2 for bios" "f10 for boot menu" like normal, then you wait for it to boot up the operating system and the screen turns black with the little white blinking score cursor thing in the top left, and this icon lights up above the keyboard on the laptop. What is going on and how do I fix this? http://imageshack.us/a/img706/1544/r8zi.jpg

The light is for the 'diskette drive" (memory card reader?).

Wild guess, but I'd say the laptop is trying to boot from the diskette drive rather than the hard drive. There isn't a memory card left in the memory-card reader is there?
Go into the bios and check the drive boot order and make sure that HDD drive is first.

I put the HDD first and no positive results. Still the same issue. Hmm ..

According to the manual, the disklette light should only come on if the drive is being accessed. If there is no memory card in the drive, try booting without the drive in place.
