The card mentioned has 1 HDMI, 1 DVI and 2 mini-Dp ports. I currently have a dual monitor setup going by using the HDMI and DVI ports. I want an extra monitor to display vertically for stats and wiki pages and I can't get it to run with the mini-Dp to HDMI cable I have. I heard I might need a passive or active display port adapter? Can anyone help me with this problem?

Yeah I plugged all three monitors and when I tried to detect through the control panel and ccc. The display port monitor was found but it wouldn't connect. One option said to connect anyway with vga or something? I also tried disconnecting all my monitors and only using a monitor with my mDP HDMI cable and that didn't work.

You need an active displayport adapter if your monitor has no displayport input for the third monitor.

They will say active in their description a passive adapter will not work.

Passive adapters also only work on dp++ ports which are marked like that, Ari cards only support 2 legacy displays (DVI/HDMI or VGA)

So when buying a card is there anywhere that mentions if a DP or miniDps will need adapters to work? And is there anywhere that would say if my ports are "double" DPs?

Also I don't really understand what your saying in your first sentence. I have 2 mini Displayports. But I assume I'm missing something and I'm not quite understanding what you are trying to say.

Also heres the card for quick reference:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127667&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-Desktop+Graphics+Cards-_-N82E16814127667&gclid=CLqCnPvNq7kCFa9_QgodaTEAJg

Alright I think I'm finally understanding. So the only way I wouldn't need an adapter is if my monitor had a displayport input so that I can just use a dp cable.

Alright so all I have to do is buy an active adapter. Also I'm guessing I might as well pick up to just in case I ever want to have a fourth monitor? Btw do you recommend HDMi or DVI as the output?
