My PC works for about 15-30 minutes and then shuts down. I do not know what is at fault. I tried to create a minimal configuration of Mother Board + Processor + 1 DIMM + A Monitor. But even in this configuration the PC shuts off after 15 mins and needs to disconnected from the power for 30 min, before it can be powered up again. It seems that either the processor or motherboard heats up.

Please suggest an economical mother board being manufactured these days to support the LGA775 slot for the core 2 duo. But since I am not even sure that the processor is working fine should I should buy a motherboard and processor combination. I do not want to buy used items, since I may not get good life from them.

Do you have a temp gun? If so, go run it until it dies, then quickly take temperature measurements of the mobo, then take off the CPU cooler very fast, and then take a temperature of that.

Thanks for answering.
Sorry, I do not have any instruments like the ones people may have in the shops. Though in India, shop people also may not be able to afford expensive equipments.
When I touch the parts of motherboard with my hand, I find the "Intel 82801GB I/O Controller Hub (ICH7)" chip the hottest (too hot to touch) - the heatsink on "Intel 82G31 GMCH" and the heatsink of processor, both seem to be at the room temperature. I think ICH7 is called southbridge - it does not have a heatsink. I do not know why the southbridge does not have a heat sink (It never had since the motherboard was purchased!).

I'd get a new CPU and motherboard. The 775 socket is getting old, so soon there will be absolutely no support for it. Here is a good CPU/Mobo/RAM combo;
Mobo; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
CPU; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
RAM; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

I made it as cheap as possible due to shipping costs.

Unfortunately, the Newegg is not allowed to operate in India.
I have tried to match up these specifications to an online indian store and substituted items as follows (The mobo "ASRock 760GM-GS3 AM3 AMD 760G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard" and RAM "Team Elite 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model TED34096M1333C9DC" were not available at the online store):

mobo substituted with "Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2" $41 (Rs. 2727) url: http://www.flipkart.com/gigabyte-ga-78lmt-s2-motherboar...

RAM substituted with "G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) PC RAM (F3-12800CL9D-4GBXL)" $35 (Rs 2350) url: http://www.flipkart.com/g-skill-ripjawsx-ddr3-4-gb-2-x-...

cpu (Found in the online store) AMD 3.8 GHz FX 4130 Processor $107 (Rs. 7150) url: http://www.flipkart.com/amd-3-8-ghz-fx-4130-processor/p...

Net $183

I know it may sound disdainful :( , but if I want to keep it even more cheaper:??:  then is this ok:

AMD BASED CONFIGURATION

>> MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2 $41 (Rs. 2727) url: http://www.flipkart.com/gigabyte-ga-78lmt-s2-motherboar...

>> RAM: Transcend DDR3-1333/PC3-10600 DDR3 2 GB PC RAM (JM1333KLN-2G) $ 21 (Rs 1390) url: http://www.flipkart.com/transcend-ddr3-1333-pc3-10600-d...

>> PROCESSOR: AMD 2.8 GHz AM3 Sempron 145 (single core) Processor $31 (Rs. 2069) url: http://www.flipkart.com/amd-2-8-ghz-am3-sempron-145-pro...

OR

AMD Athlon II X2 270 (dual core) Processor $49 (Rs. 3270) url: http://www.flipkart.com/amd-athlon-ii-x2-270-processor/...

>>>>> TOTAL: $ 93 (Semparon); $111 (Athlon)

INTEL BASED CONFIGURATION
>> MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte GA-C807N Motherboard with built in single core Intel Celeron processor 807 $69 (Rs. 4599) url: http://www.flipkart.com/gigabyte-ga-c807n-motherboard/p...

>> RAM: Transcend DDR3-1333/PC3-10600 DDR3 2 GB PC RAM (JM1333KLN-2G) $ 21 (Rs 1390) url: http://www.flipkart.com/transcend-ddr3-1333-pc3-10600-d...

>>>>>> TOTAL: $90 (Intel)

Is the Semparon ok for internet surfing and light coding?

Yes. All single core CPUs will do fine with it. But, Windows 7 may run a little slow. I'd much rather go with the Athlon.
