Trying to choose a processor

So I'm trying to choose a processor for a pretty high end gaming rig. So far I've got the Asus z87-plus and the GTX 780 (will most likely be adding a second 780 soon). I'm trying to choose a processor and I'm just wondering what the big difference is between the i7-4770k and the i5-4670k? But if you guys could recommend another equally good processor that would be appreciated ( preferably Intel) Thanks in advance.

The big difference between them is hyperthreading, which allows each core to address two threads at a time. So when a core runs out of data for one thread, and would normally have to wait for data to arrive from memory or whatever, it can instead just work on its other thread.

In some applications it can add a pretty significant boost, in others not so much. And of course it requires the workload to actually be capable of benefitting from extra cores/threads beyond 4. That's why it is usually not worth it for gaming, because most games only really use 2-4 cores.

The i5-4670K is good enough for Gaming, but if your're rendering videos, editting videos, or running a virtual machine, etc, then you'll want the i7-4770K, but for gaming the i5-4670K is good enough

Thanks for the quick responses guys. My next question is about future proofing the computer. I am mainly using it for gaming but if I buy the i7, would it be able to keep up with the new games coming out?

It may help a little with future games coded to benefit from more than 4 cores/threads. But I don't think it's really worth the extra money.

Get the i5 now, then in the future when you think it will bottleneck your future Video Cards (if you plan on upgrading those in the future) then get the i7, but for now, get the i5

The i5-4670k is faster at stock, but tends to run hotter, so harder to overlock on this one, while the i5-3570k is a bit slower, but overclocks pretty well. If you overclock both, they'll probably perform exactly the same, or a slight bit more for the 3570k.
But the 4670k is more recent. But also costs more. I usually recommend the 3570k.
