PC won't recognize TV rhrough hdmi

Just picked up a new Samsung smart TV and tried hooking it up to my computer with an HDMI, the TV shows no signal and my computer won't detect the TV whatsoever. I haven't had issues before where the TV simply didn't show up on the computer so I'm lost

CPU: i7-3770k
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77N-WiFi
GPU Radeon HD 7750

Is the hdmi plugged into the video card or motherboard? It should be plugged into the video card as the onboard video is most likely disabled.
