Are my CPU temps ok?

About one month ago I cleaned out my CPU cooler, (Intel Stock) and when I tried to put it back in, one of the pins broke. After an hour of messing around I managed to get it back in. And I also kept the same thermal paste. (Stupid I know)

The thing is, recently I have been having a problem with my PC. I have made 3 threads about it, and I still have not solved it. I have been thinking and have decided this might be why.

(The most recent thread: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1772017/games-feel-laggy-high-fps.html)

My Cpu is an Intel i3 3220 3.3Ghz
While idle I get temps of around 35c
And while under load around 65c

Another weird thing is that as soon as I open a game, the temps shoot up to the 60's, even in the game menu.

Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you for reading.

Your idle temp looks ok.
But, 65c seem high without much load.

You can not reuse the paste. Clean it and apply new.
With power to the pc disconnected, try to wiggle the cooler.
It should not move at all. Check the back side of the motherboard. All 4 pins should be completely through and locked.

I might consider something like a cm hyper 212, a $30 cooler. A i3 really does not need one, but the larger 120mm fan will be much quieter under load.

From your other thread, I would suggest that this would be an opportune time to switch to a SSD. Everything you do will feel so much faster. The advantage in games should be minimal. Mostly for faster level loads and checkpoints.

Thank you for your reply!
One thing I would like to mention, is that I get 65c in the menus, and while under heavy load.
I am going to clean the paste, and then use a cooler with ready applied grease.
The one pin is not completely through, and it does wiggle a bit, so I will get a new one.
I am not however going to get that cooler, as I don't want to spend £30 (£) when I have a problem that might cost a lot to solve.
I also do not want to buy an SSD, for the same reason. And it will also make no difference to my problem either. I am in much more dire need of a HDD to replace my old 320gb.

Do you have any other ideas why I am having my problem?
And once again, thank's for the reply.

I think I would fix a known issue first, and get a secure mount on the cooler.
You might find that your problem is fixed. If you have another stock intel cooler available, by all means use that.
If not, most any cooler will do the job.

The trick to a pushpin mount is to push down on diagonal pairs of pins at the same time.

Under load, it is possible that the cpu is throttling back because of heat.
Check the multiplier using cpu-z when under load.

I have tried this and did notice that the multiplier changed between 16 and 32, I am not sure if this is what you were talking about, but I am pretty sure that means it is slowing down. I will now order some rubbing alcohol, and some coffee filters and the cooler. Thank's for sticking around. I will inform you after I have done it.

The multiplier changing is normal. It is activated by speedstep. Under little or no load, the multiplier will be reduced to 16.
Under load, it will run full out.

Run a stress program, (I suggest OCCT) verify that the multiplier stays at max, and what the temperature levels out to be.

I ran Prime 95 for around 15 mins, and the CPU got to 64 C. I did notice however that the multiplier did stay at X33. I did notice the core speed changing though. Does this mean anything? (Sorry for slow reply)

If you see the multiplier(speed) dropping on occasion while under load, it indicates that the cpu is throttling.
This is likely because it is getting too hot.
64c. is not a problem. Perhaps the measurement tool is not accurate.
OCCT stresses in a different way, and generates graphs of temperatures, multiplier, voltages etc.
Give that a try.

I gave it a try and my CPU got to 68c. The multiplier stayed the same though. I would just like to add that I ran it on my GPU and it got to 72C, I think this is normal but I would like to know your opinion.
