Hello, so I currently have a nice little PC:

Intel i7 2.67GHZ
9GB of Ram
Win7 Home Premium 64

BUT MY GPU SUCKS:

nVidia GeForce GT 220!!!!

I would like to buy a gaming graphics card(I mostly play strategy games like: Europa Universalis 4, Total War series, Endless Space, Starcraft 2, Civ5, etc) but I definitely want to play the new games like Total War: Rome 2 and the ones to come.

My budget for a new graphics card is maximum around 250$, not more than 270$.

I thought of either:

-nVidia GTX 660 Ti for 250$
-nVidia GTX 660 for around 200$
-Or some of the same price and quality equivalents of AMD

BUT as I said I don't know much about GPUs, so I am asking you guys to help me get a good graphics card that is maximum around 250$.

What are your suggestions? I am open to nVidia and AMD cards btw.

Thank you very much for your help!

660ti is obsolete now. The 7950 and 760 are the same price, pick either of those.

You probably don't need to run up your budget of $300 if you are just playing strategy games, they usually benefit most from the CPU.

but the 660 ti has a very good G3D mark in bot Futuremark and PassMark. I mean it has 13 times more G3D thing than my current GT 220. I don't understand why it would be obsolete.

Because the 760 is the exact same price, same card otherwise but higher clocked and uses a 256bit bus, so it doesn't shit the bed when you ask it to run at a high res on put alot of AA on.

Also the 7950 is often cheaper and has always been faster.

Because the GT 220 is older than the world.

If you're going for a 660, buy a TI.

Alright, thanks to both of you so far, Breadkun, the GPUs you gave me there are too expensive, i edited the post. The max is 250$.

So right now I've seen:

760 for 250$ which has a G3D mark of 5000 on PassMark
7950 for like 210$ with 4600 G3D

Nice suggestions there, thank you.

Is there any preference between the two(760 or 7950) or some other similar suggestions?

Ignore Passmark, its totally inaccurate.

Keep in mind the 7950 on this graph is the base model, I'm not sure if you can even buy it anymore. The Boost version is more common and is about 5% faster.

Alright I'm going to go for the AMD 7950.

Now to end this thread, could you link me the best offers etc?

Thank you to all

Alright thank you everybody you really helped me. If it was for me I would have gotten the 660 Ti which is not better than the 7950 or 760. Thank you.

EDIT: One last question so that i don't start another thread: what is the most important feature to look into when selecting a graphics card?
