Hi, Tomshardware.
I just want to ask a quick question. I really like the look of this heatsink: Silver arrow sb-e, so if I don't overclock my rig, is it worth the 90 bucks to buy it? Would that heatsink make my cpu any cooler and stretch my cpu's lifespan?

Solution
If you have the room for it and the money for it, go for it. But you'll be tempted to leave the side off the PC just so you can look at it. And yes, it will cool better than the stock heat sync/fan. But so would a $30 cooler.

While the third party heat sink/fan would probably make your CPU run cooler, I doubt it would significantly extend it's lifespan. In fact, you'd probably replace the CPU long before it's end of life, even with the stock heat sink/fan (I have a fully functional S939 AMD Athlon X2-4800+ as evidence) .

I don't know about you, but the only time I see inside my system is when I'm cleaning or upgrading. Therefore, internal aesthetics mean very little to me and certainly not worth $90

It won't increase the lifespan of the CPU. And you shouldn't really worry about the lifespan of the cpu unless you plan on using it for 10+ years. Even overclocked CPU last 6-7 years which is longer than most people keep their computer.

Since you won't be overclocking, it'll be more about looks and noise. as most third party heat sinks look amazing and are extremely quiet compare to the stock heat sink. Personally, I would look for a heatsink in the $30 to $50 since you won't be overclocking.

It shouldn't increase the lifespan of the CPU, but it could make it cooler. Although it will make your CPU cooler, it is unnecessary because the CPU company will include a Stock CPU cooler heatsink that works perfectly fine and is meant to work especially for that CPU.

So It will make the CPU cooler in looks and temperature, but it is unnecessary and if you have the money then go for it :)

Of course it will keep it cooler that's what it's designed to do, especially not overclocked you'll have lower temperatures across the board, and the cooler you can keep it, the longer it will last, simple as that!
