Hello,

I am looking to upgrade my GPU from a Radeon 6670 to a 7870.

I have a 450w PSU at the moment and my first thoughts are that I will need a new one. But I'd like to know from the professionals first!

My specs incase you need them:
AMD Bulldozer FX-430 Quad Core
16GB RAM
Radeon 6670 2GB

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks :)

Unless it's a PSU from a manufacturer like Seasonic, you will most likely need to upgrade. AMD suggests a minimum of a 500w PSU for the 7870 and the card itself requires 2 6-pin PCI-E cables for power.

As Zero Cool suggested, Seasonic is good. I'm running a Rosewill, no problems yet, Antec is also well regarded. Try and find a modular one if can fit it in your budget, you can leave out the cabling your not gonna use, helps with case airflow. Newegg is a good place to find any of these.

Cheers.
