What happens if I disable Microsoft Windows Operating System in the MSONFIG Startup tab?

I was getting a continual error every time I started up my computer. The message said "Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files."

When I went to MSCONFIG startup tab and unchecked the box next to MS Windows Operating System and restarted the computer the error message no longer appeared.

Can I leave this box unchecked? Is this the right way to fix the error message?

That doesn't sound like something that should be there. It may be malware masquerading as something else to sound more legitimate.

Though this is a bit after the initial post I'm posting here as it came up first in the search for this. It is very likely that this is a result of malware. What probably happened is that the malware itself was deleted but the registry entry to run it was left intact and was causing the error message. If someone sees this entry they should look deeper and does the command look something like "regsvr32.exe /s "C:\Users\#######\AppData\Local\Cisco\issrhjzpcp.dll"? The randomized name for the dll is a dead giveaway. This is asking it to run under svchost.exe so that it's harder to spot from the task manager. The free version of malwarebyes is a good place to start. Also try to remember what you did browsing wise that may have caused this.
