My friend recently, "Tried to overclock his cpu". He said he turned the multipliers to 20.5 and turned off some amd stuff. After that he restarted his pc and now when he start it up it makes 3 long beeps prior to starting and nothing is displayed. From my research 3 long beeps means it is a memory problem, which doesn't make any sense because he didn't mess with that at all. He has a MSI motherboard. He has tried reseting the cmos and switching around the ram in the slots. Still, nothing is working and it is really frustrating for him. He thought his cpu got fried because of the overclock but that isn't likely because he has watercooling. We don't understand how the overclocking can be related to ram problem though. Please help and or give suggestions, thanks.

I will bet he has at least one 'broken' stick of RAM amongst the 2 to 4 sticks I'm guessing he has?

Unfortunately the 'problem stick' isn't being rooted out - just shuffled and moved around!

I am having the same problem with one of my 4 1gb sticks. It causes the screen to fail at boot. Standard advice as per usual for purchasing and fitting RAM.

Have you tried resetting the BIOS via the reset button, removing the CMOS battery or moving the jumper to the reset position? (Only one of the above is required depending on your board)
