I have an old Toshiba P25-S508 17" Laptop that I have maintained and is in pretty darn good shape, only trouble is the HDD died. Now to find a new ATA/IDE is near impossible. I have been down the adapter route and learned what it means by; "Won't fit most models." So I am in need of a solution or idea if anyone can offer one up. Thanks!

I was able to find a Seagate 80gig 2.5" Ultra ATA IDE hard drive at 3B Tech http://3btech.net/se80542mbide.html . I have got a few items from them over the years and I have never had a problem with them while I usually use Newegg I could not find any ide laptop hard drive from them.

It is also a 5400rpm drive instead of the 4200rpm that came with that laptop and 20gig bigger. 3B Tech has it for $46.99.
Those Amazon disks are 3.5" but laptop disks are still freely available in the second hand market. I frequently buy for my customers in a local store but e-Bay has thousand and most will be capable of giving good service long enough to see that Toshiba off the planet. Used doesn't always mean useless. If you can only find a low capacity disk, store all your data on an external SATA disk in a caddy, using a USB converter. That way you have only the system and the programmes on the internal disk - sacrificial if the whole lappy gives up.
