GTX 760 v. 7970 Question

Looking to grab a new graphics card, and my first question is what is the true difference between a 256 bit and a 384 bit memory interface? Secondly I noticed that the effective memory clock rates were drastically different from one another between the cards that I just bought and was wondering what that was as well. The cards I have picked out are as follows:

GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 760 GV-N760OC-4GD WindForce 3X 450W Video Card

HIS IceQ X² Radeon HD 7970 H797QM3G2M Video Card

SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7970 100351SR Video Card OC with Boost

MSI Radeon HD 7970 Twin Frozr OC Boost Edition R7970 TF 3GD5/OC BE Video Card

Here is the quick answer. Neither card can fully utilize a 256-bit memory interface so the fact that the 7970 has one really isn't important. Unless you are gaming on a monitor with a resolution higher than 1080p, you only need 2gb of VRAM. The GTX 760 2gb is 17% less expensive that the cheapest 7970 but only 7% slower. Go for any of the $249 760's and you won't be disappointed!
