The performance gain on a 7950 would not really be worth it over the SLI. I would put a 7990 as the jump to outweigh SLI so get a second card for now I would say.

I would say go for a SLI also. Although the HD 7950 does have a much greater bus. I can say that at least on a single 1080p monitor a HD 7950 can hold its own in any game I have played. I can't really say much about the GTX 660 as I have not used any Nvidia cards lower than the GTX 670 and I have always ran that in SLI.

When you go to multi gpu route that's mean you're prepared to have that. But so far i'm satisfied with my dual 660.
