Haswell HD 4600 support OpenCL, so I wonder what happen to Haswell IGP if I install a GPU card? Can I still able to use the Haswell IGP for applications like photoshop? Or the IGP will be disabled after a discrete GPU installed?

Thank you.

if you go into your bios you can choose on some motherboard to have the IGP active when a discrete card is inserted, it tends to work on some higher and lower end boards its just the pick of the draw.

you will need a seperate monitor on the IGP, most 3d accelerated applicatios will crash out if you drag it from one monitor to another as they tend to not like being passed between different GPU's and only between monitors on the same gpu.

If I don't plug a 2nd monitor, can I still use the IGP for OpenCL accelerated applications?

I read this and found the HD Graphics 4600 which is OpenCL 1.2 compliance.

HD Graphics 4600: Impressive OpenCL

So I wonder if I installed a discreate graphic card, can I use the HD4600 for other purpose?

Edit:
It seems I need to use a VGA dummy-plug in order to enable the on-board GPU with OpenCL support, could someone confirm this?

GPU computing
Intel GPUs: Currently Ivy Bridge and Haswell are the only Intel CPUs with an OpenCL capable Intel GPU, however future embedded GPUs may also support OpenCL. You will need to install Intel graphics drivers to enable OpenCL support. It's also needed to add a monitor or VGA dummy-plug before the Intel GPU is recognized.

I do exactly this - use the IGP and a discrete Graphics card for two monitors no problem!

I have:
Gigybyte H87-D3H motherboard
i5 4570 with HD 4600 IGP
HD 7850 Discrete graphics card
1 Asus 27" monitor with 1920x1080 resolution --> hooked up to HD 7850 graphics card via displayport cabel
1 Dell 22" monitor with 1680x1050 resolution --> hooked up to the i5 IGP via the motherboard DVI connection and cabel
Windows 7

This setup works no problem whatsoever - all plug & play and I move around all kinds of windows and applications. I play large games on the 27" monitor with the graphics card no problem and at the same time have browser windows running on the 22" monitor.

In adddition entire setup confirmed with CPU-Z and GPU-Z. When I start GPU-Z it shows in the dropdown menu which GPU should be shown. I start up GPU-Z two times showing the stats of each GPU correspondingy

So I cannot confirm all these "difficulties" with using two GPU's in this fashion - it all works fine ;)
