Windows 8 recognises printer (Canon Pixma MP260) but not as a scanner

I have this problem and my only solution is to print to a USB stick or memory card and then access the scanned image from there. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software countless times and it did not work.

Try removing it from Devices and Printers then re-installing the Canon driver
