I'm well versed with computers, but when it comes to hardware I'm a complete noob. I came up with the below list of hardware that I'm thinking on purchasing- can you tell me your thoughts and what yout think about this setup? Any recommendations? I would like to stay with under $800 budget and that setup below is ~$750. I already have SSD, dvddrive, case, and power supply.

I intend to use my computer primarly for: video editing, running vmware images, and my primary OS will be Linux. I don't play games.

CPU:
AMD FX-8350 Vishera 4.0GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+
~$200

Graphic Card:
SAPPHIRE 100354OC-2L Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 CrossFireX
~$184

Motherboard:
ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Gaming Motherboard with 3-Way SLI/CrossFireX Support
~$234

Memory:
G.SKILL Ares Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900)
~$126

Solution
There is nothing wrong with the GPU and RAM there are good to go. But, do you really need 16GB of RAM ? I heard that pro video and audio editing will require some amount of RAM, so if you are a pro than you may need that kind of RAM, other than that 16GB is an overkill and waste of money. All we need is 8GB of RAM for regular use. And your OS will be much less demanding compare to windows.

BTW what is the make/model of PSU ?

Any particular reason for the above? Or any specific one you'd recommend?
