Im planning to build a gaming pc that can play the lastest games like BF3, Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite, FFXIV, and the upcming BF4 at the highest settings @60fps or more. I play using only a single monitor 1080p.

The components that I came up with are:

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard
Memory: A-Data XPG Gaming Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Video Card: MSI Nvidia GTX 660 Ti
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 600W 80 PLUS Certified ATX12V Power Supply

I didnt include the case and HDD because I have them from my previous pc.

Will this be able to play all the games stated above @60fps 1080p? Or do i need to upgrade to FX-8320 and HD 7950? Would that give me better fps? Please advise. Thanks :)

The 6300 runs 1866 ddr3 native. Get 1866 or you will lose some performance.

I would get a radeon 7950 instead of gts 660. 7950 is a great card for right around $200 and comes with 3 free games. If you hold onto the coupon for a month or so, you should be able to redeem it for BF4.

If you can afford it, I would get fx 8320. Since both consoles coming out have 8 cores, games in the future will use 8 cores. Your 6 core will be outdated much sooner than an 8 core.

Whats your budget for the build total? Also if you can afford an eight core amd, get a quad core i5. AMD may have multiple cores, however one core from an i5 is better then two cores from amd. If its too much just stick with the FX 6300.

There's a reason that fx 8350's sell well at their price point. If they didn't, they would be cheaper. They are better than a similarly priced i5 when running a properly multithreaded application. Amd 8 core processors are going to be in the next xbox and ps4. Games are going to be optimized for their 8 core architecture. I would bet on AMD.

Mind showing me any article where an 8350 out performs a 3570k?

That's easy.

Like I said, fx8350 wins when the apps are properly multithreaded. You really thought amd had the audacity to price the fx8350 at i5 prices and not be able to win a single benchmark?

Yes but most games are single threaded and he wanted a gaming pc, not a video editing one.

fx8350 isn't far behind the i5 in single thread apps, yet they have huge potential when software is multithreaded. Games are headed that way. My 8350 is good for games right now and will be good for games in the future. The i5 is great for games right now, but will be bad for games in the future.

Bad for games in the future? Good multithreaded games won't be coming out until at least 3 years from now, by which a new generation CPU will come out. Also for multithreading the AMD is only 8% faster so the intel won't be bad for future games. That being said the i5 also runs cooler and uses less power. Anyways its up to him, but if he were to upgrade from the 6300 he should go for the 8320 if the i5 is too expensive because the 8320 can easily OC to the 8350 performance wise.

They're making games in 8 threads right now. I'm not sure why you think 3 years from now. I believe I heard BF4 is going to use 8 threads and that comes out in like 2 months. In the past, game developers were slow to adapt more threads because they didn't have to. Now they do. Because if they don't, their game will be blown away by the other xbox and ps4 titles.

The 8350 is as far ahead in multithreaded apps as the i5 is ahead in single threads apps and that's without a single game being optimized for their architecture. Games will now be optimized. Don't underestimate that.

In the past, games were designed to be run on Intel. As of right now, games are designed to be run on amd. I will see you on the red side soon enough.

Meh, seeing as BF4 is just a sequel it will most likely be single threaded. We'll just have to wait and see then....
