New Build: Computer won't boot with GPU powered on

Just built a brand new system two days ago. I proceeded with the first boot, but MoBo LED was stuck at "x64" and I saw nothing on the screen. I then removed all peripherals except for RAM and successfully booted, upon which I started plugging in frontside audio, USB 3.0 and 2.0 connections, ODD, SSD, HDD, one by one till I realized that the computer did not boot up with GPU powered on. I loaded the OS onto my SSD and am yet to install drivers, but I would like to know if I am missing a step (I am using two 8-pin connectors for the GPU marked "PCI-e" and "SLI Ready") or if I should RMA the GPU.

Here are the specs:

CPU: i5 4600K
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H
RAM: 16 GB Gskill Sniper Gaming series 1866
Boot SSD: Corsair Neutron GTX 120GB
Storage HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB
ODD: LG Blu-Ray UH12NS30-OEM
GPU: Sapphire Vapor-X 7950 w/ Boost Clock
PSU: Rosewill Capstone 750-M, 80+ Gold
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D14
Chassis: Fractal Design Define R4 Midtower

Thanks in advance for any help.

Solution
Plug your display into the gfx card (otherwise the gfx card becomes redundant).

Your BIOS (if it detects a gfx card), will, like most, set the default display output to the PCIe card ahead of the motherboard - the reason you see nothing. An easy enough mistake to do - we all learn from doing things like this.

I'm not familiar with your mobo however recheck the PCIe slot your gfx card is sitting in....it may be sitting in the wrong slot (many multi gfx capable boards make a demand on where single cards sit).

Recheck the mobo and gfx card manuals to see if any special considerations exist when using this card.

Recheck power requirements for the gfx card and confirm connectors are fully inserted.

Can you pop the gfx card into a friends PC?

@Mongo: The display is plugged to the MoBo's HDMI output and not the GPU. Which is why it is confusing. As for your question, I may have a better answer later this evening, but I believe my MoBo LED was reading "A0" with the GPU powered on, last I checked (and I wasn't seeing anything on the screen).

@mesab66: Sorry, but don't have a friend's PC to verify this :(.

The GPU is sitting on the very first PCIe x16 slot. I will make sure I go through the manuals again to check for any special considerations and power requirements, although I believe I plugged in the two eight-pin connectors marked "PCIe" by Rosewill.

Please help me. New build here. I'm having a similar problem, with my Radeon 7950 and Gigabyte X79 UP4 motherboard. Everything turns on but no display.

I don't understand your solution. What do you mean by plugging the display into the gfx card? Are you talking about connecting the monitor through a DVI cable to the graphics card?

Please explain.
