Hey guys! New here! I am a young amateur computer enthusiast. I Have 2 computers, 1 partly gutted and one whole one. The whole one was bought from my church for 40 dollars and has an ASrock Motherboard, HIS turbo ICEQ radeon 4670 graphics, and an Athlon 64 X2 4400+ processor with windows XP professional and COD. (a twofer :p)
So, to the point. Ever since I got this wonderful computer, the disk drive hasn't worked. Being a decently computer savvy person (compared to the average Joe), I decided to replace the broken drive with another functioning one. (both from 2003 and made by the same company) Long story short, I plugged in the power and grey cable who's name escapes me and went to boot it up (not without making sure they had the same power requirements). It took a minute and then it said, "Please insert boot media". From my 2 weeks of hardware knowledge, I believe that it is telling me it can't find the OS. I unplugged the DVD ROM and tried booting it up. It took a while longer because it couldn't detect the drive, but booted up normally. I believe that it says "insert boot media" because it does not know this drive and is looking for the other one. I tried to select this newer drive in the bios, but alas, it was not there. :( I would appreciate any help that I can get!!! Most youtube videos just tell you the hardware replacement, not the software issues. Thanks for your time!!!!

Install the cd drive back in the computer and go into the bios, it sounds like you need to rearrange the boot order. It may be trying to boot from cd before the hard drive, flip these around so it goes to the hard drive first and you shouldn't have this issue any more.

@burdenbound, Just remembered to say, I didn't put the old drive back in because the stupid power cable wouldn't come out. It's a pain in the butt.

Casey, the connection is this:
Motherboard----Hard drive------DVD ROM Drive.

It still isn't working.
