I used to have a pentax, I bought a filter that was actually fake because it was there to protect the lense.

Now I got a real camera but I'm not sure what filter to get...

From amazon.ca only (I have a huge gift card) any suggestions for UV Filter? Mainly I want it to protect 2 lenses I have.

Thank you

Hi moulder -I have been shooting with SLRs and DSLRs for 40 years. I have used Hoyas, Tiffens, Vivitars, etc. The brand of UV filter you use makes no discernible difference in image quality, in my view. The only reason I use UV filters now is to protect my lenses from breakage. It's been worth it, because I have lost two "sacrificial" filters over the years with no damage to my lenses.

I now buy inexpensive Zeikos UV filters for all my lenses, because they do what I need them to do and are a very good value for the money.

Hope this is helpful,

TBH for the kit lens it's a waste of money to throw on a filter. You'd be better off buying a $2 hood.

If the filter is just to protect the lens during storage then you could go with a less expensive one. If, on the other hand, you will keep it on your lens while shooting then you should consider a better quality filter. Either way I understand the need to protect the lens.
