Help to Choose Ram for Maximus VI Formula w/4770k CPU, 670 SLI
Hi all,
Recently put together this rig with a lot of old parts from my older desktop.
The Rig:
Asus Maximus VI Formula
3770i CPU
MSI 670 PE 2 way SLI
Samsung 840 pro 256 SSD
Corsair HX850 PSU
Corsair 4X4G Vengeance CMZ16GX3M4X1600C9 Ram
Corsair H110 Water cooling for CPU
Question:
Am using my old desktop's Ram for now, but need to replace them because I am giving my old system to my cousin. So am thinking of getting some relatively fast Ram, maybe 2X8G 2133s? If not what do you recommend? I never in the past bought anything but the cheapest or close to cheapest rams. So I would like to try faster Rams without breaking the bank. Thanks.
USE:
will be using the desktop to mostly play games and do some over clocking. Also have 4 monitors connected to it, cause I like to open a few different sites and program at the same time.

More about : choose ram maximus formula 4770k haswell cpu 670 sli
ivy bridge cpus show no performance gains for ram over 1600, so i wouldn't bother spending the premium on fast ddr3 ram (frankly, they show little performance gain for ANY ram, the improvement for performance from ddr3 1333 to 1600 is almost completely negligible as it is, that said 1600 is about all you need for max performance from your intel cpu)

I've already changed the title. So any different advice? Cause I thought the Haswell chips do take advantage of the higher speed ram, is that right? Thanks

ThanksI'm not sure they do. They can USE extremely fast ram, but i've seen no benchmarks that show any real improvement in performance over slower ram. I've seen benches with the new haswell cpus with the fastest ram they can take and they're just 2%-8% faster then ivybridge cpus with the fastest ram they can take, and we KNOW ivy bridge gain nothing from ram faster then 1600. So it's unlikely haswell actually gain much from their faster ram. (i've seen nothing that confirms this, but i think it's true)

I think I am just going to find Ram that is compatible and also a good deal. Sounds like anything above 1600 would give you decent results. Since this is going to be in my acrylic water cooled case, I would probably go for looks as well

any ddr3 ram with less then 1.6V power requirement will work just fine. Get yourself something black or red to match the board... like one of the Mushkin blackline or redline ram, ddr3 1600-1866 and call it a day. Thanks for the advice, but I can't find the ram mentioned above in the compatibility table. Is that okay? Also if you don't mind, can you send me the link of the Ram that you are mentioning? Thanks.

all will work fine with the haswell cpu and asus motherboard. worst case you'll have to enter the timings and settings by hand. unlikely but it might happen. otherwise this is excellent ram that will work fine in your system
