I'm a lifetime mac user and I'm thinking of getting a PC because I just started studying computer animation. It seems to be a little more industry standard, and I think I can get a little more speed/ adaptability for my buck. What's a fast/ reliable consumer-end suggestion?

I'd like to spend less than 1k with monitor (hardware only). I'm up for a kit if its easy, but I don't really have time and I want it to work. If I can something better than, say, an iMac for a lower price, that's about my speed. Otherwise, I'll just get an iMac.
