I have a Sony vaio. My hard disk have a smart hard disk failure and So I try to reformat it and it stuck half way. So now I can't get I to windows. Is there any ways to delete partition without going into windows?

Solution
There are many ways to reformat a hard drive without starting Windows, but I doubt any of them will help you. If you've got SMART failures, then your hard drive has detected that it is failing. Your best bet is to purchase a new hard drive. If that isn't an option, I would suggest downloading the HDD diagnostic tool from the hard drive manufacturer's website. Use that tool to do a full scan of the drive and it might be able to re-map any corrupt sectors.

Do you know what brand of hard drive you have? All the manufacturers have utilities that can create a bootable CD or USB drive to scan your hard drive. If you can give me the brand and model of hard drive, I can get you a link to the appropriate download. You'll obviously need to use another computer to create the CD/USB/Floppy, but it should work on your computer.

I can't say for sure what is happening with your drive. Is the Vaio care recovery tool on the hard drive or on a DVD? It sounds like your hard drive has a seek problem or media problem, so it is trying to either read, write, or seek to a specific location (where DISM.EXE is located) but the drive doesn't respond. For what it's worth, DISM is the Microsoft tool for creating or applying an image to a hard drive.

Here is a link to the Toshiba utility for checking your hard drive:

I suspect it won't be able to resolve your issue. You will probably need to purchase a new hard drive, and if your Vaio Care recovery tool is on the hard drive, you may need to contact Sony to get a set of DVDs to reload your computer (assuming you don't already have one.)

The recovery tool is in the laptop itself. If change a hard drive, do you have any reccomandation of which drive is better? And can you teach me how to compare which hard disk is more worth??
Thank you so much.
