Ever since Vista came out and I first ran it on a 12-disk RAID5 array dual-xeon workstation (quite fast back then), Vista would do this continuously on HD access for perhaps 20 to 30 seconds. All 12 drives lit-up continuously. So, I moved the machine back to XP64pro. Vista on a laptop now with the most recent updates and, with a very fast SSD, the same behavior happens. The HD will light up for 20 to 30 seconds and I will not be able to do much of anything. It has even happened during the initial boot sequence! And, to make matters worse, it has happened multiple times within a five minute period. What is Vista doing during these times? The storage devices cannot possibly be bad after testing them later on (i.e. to try and figure this issue out). Plus, each machine was quite different in both mobo, cpu, mem, disk units, etc. For those 20 to 30 seconds, it is make a sandwich time... Any thoughts? Thanks.
