I get this on a few games (FC3 wont boot, Medieval total war 2 wont boot, Game Dev Tycoon wont play past 20-30 seconds, and Rome 2 wont even start).

I have done clean installations and my only resort now is 306 drivers.

Any idea on what i can do?

I followed the repair tip here:

http://steamcommunity.com/app/202170/discussions/0/864946671950361987/

But it does not show errors on my nvidia driver, nor does it allow me to update.

HELP!

By that you mean, using driver explorer? Just want to make sure I understand you.

How would i update netframework?

The updater did not resolve anything. i had no graphics card drivers that needed resolution or updating.

It however pointed to me to a bunch of what looked like shovelware

I know this is an old post but this is one of the first google results from searching for the specific error .

I've experienced this issue when using the oculus rift, on a fresh windows 7 install. Previous installation had worked just fine.
Installing newer drivers or rolling back to older versions did not produce any improvements.
( Note : the issue manifested only in certain 3D applications, most games worked just fine )

Fix : ( for my situation )
After doing a very long set of windows updates ( about 1gb worth of updates ) . The error completely stopped manifesting.
