Hello

Im gonna use only 1 SSD so far and Im having little question about installing SSD into desktop case. I read I should remove the vibration pins when installing an SSD into case , but I wonder if I do need to put them back when finished the installation or not? I mean why they are there if they tell me to move them out , or are these only for HDDs?

Also is it ok if I choose to go only with SSD and no HDD?

Thanks a lot

Solution
SSD-only is fine as long as you have enough storage space for the data you need.

As to the pins, an SSD doesn't need them as it has no moving parts (so therefore no vibration to absorb) unlike a conventional HDD, so it's whatever fits best for your case / SSD setup.

No issues using an SSD only. I've build a large number of systems with this type of configuration (I'm a system builder for a busy retail store).

As for the vibration washers, which case do you have? I may have built in it, and I can tell you how to do it?
I'll need to know the manufacturer and the model.

You'll need a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter. Some cases have a dedicated spot for ssds. You really won't the anti vib stuff since there are no moving parts in the ssd. There is no need to have an hdd, most people just can't afford an ssd large enough to hold all their stuff.

Are you referring to anti-vibration pins installed in a drive tray? Those are to isolate mechanical 3.5" drives from the frame. 2.5" SSDs do not vibrate (they have no moving parts), and typically screw into the frame, not using the isolation pins.
If you have to remove the pins to position the SSD correctly, they are probably suggesting you replace them (if they'll fit) so you do not lose them (in case you mount a regular HDD there later).
You can use a SSD only in a system.

The Coolermaster trays only use the vibration damper pins on the 3.5" HDD's. That model of case should come with at least one 2.5" drive mount tray, or if it's an updated revision of the case, it should have drive trays in which you can directly mount the SSD to.

nope I checked all the trays and none of them is tool-less for 2.5'' SSDs , in all trays u have to use screwdriver to mount the SSD , atleast thats what I see ( my first build ) , but its not that hard , will take u like 2 mins , maximum.

Yeah, not many cases have tool-less SSD installation. And the ones that do don't hold the drives very well. I'm not very fond of most tool-less designed cases, I always prefer knowing that the drives are secured and won't come out in shipping or transit.

Also- unless the tool-less design uses rubber cushioning in some manner, there will almost always be some vibration from the fans.
