Hey guys, how are you doing?

Maybe this is a stupid question, but i cant find any information on the internet.

Is is possible to use 2 different ddr3 memories? I mean, 2 different models of ddr3. For example gskill ripjaws X and ripjaws Z

I wanted to know because i have a pair of ripjaws X (2x4) and i wanted to add more memory. My problem is that i didnt find the same memory model, im from Argentina, so i decided to buy the Ripjaws Z (2x8)

Here it goes the rest of my computer.

Intel 3930k
Msi BIG BANG Xpower II
2x4 Ripjaws X 2133mhz
XFX HD6950 2GB
Cooler master 1200w

Im looking forward for an answer, thanks in advance!

Ram is sold in kits for a reason.
Ram from the same vendor and part number can be made up of differing manufacturing components over time.
Some motherboards can be very sensitive to this.
That is why ram vendors will NOT support ram that is not bought in one kit.
Although, I think the problem has lessened with the newer Intel chipsets. Still,
it is safer to get what you need in one kit.
All ram must be managed by the motherboard at the same voltage.
If it works, you will need to operate at the lowest common denominator of performance.

First of all, thanks adimeister :D

In Gskill's website, the latency is NOT the same. That means that they arent actually compatible? :(

These are the ones i have.
http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-17000cl9d-8gbxm

And these ones i was planning to buy.

Now that i was looking on the website, what does 'SPD Speed' means? Because the ones that i have, the freq is higher than the ones i want to buy

If you have more than 16gb, you will need a windows version greater than home premium.

I think I would plan on selling the old ram and buying a new kit.
Go to the g.skil web site and access their configurator.
Enter your motherboard, and you will get a list of compatible kits.

You said that you have 8gb already, right? So making it 16gb all in all? SPD means the speed of the ram, the latency that I said. The one that you have have a higher spd, so that is faster than the one you want to buy. I've seen that your memory has also a tighter timing, 9-9-9 (lower is better). Your memory is already fine. Why do you need 16gb? Because most likely, if you place the new slower ram, it will downclock your faster ram. Hence, making your memory speed slower.

I have 7 ultimate. I forgot to say. I was thinking the same, sell the ones i have (they have a year of use only) and buy a new pair of sticks.

I work with 3DS max, and sometimes im a little short when im rendering. And today i came across with amd ramdisk, and im willing to use it, for gaming or working with autocad or 3ds.
Its a pity that i cannot find any of the ones i have. Maybe im going to look for another brand, or another model.

Any ddr3 suggestions for gaming and working with 3DS?

I really appreciate that you are answering, guys! :D
