Having CPU problem install

I bought a core 2 duo e6700 for my leonite when I installed it it gave me a black screen. When I change back to my pentuim d 830 it works. Do I need bios or is my CPU doa?

I found a bios for a Update for a Xp version but i upgraded to windows 7 64 bit. Will this still work?
