Well, let me start off by saying hello, my name is Derek. This is my first post on this forum and also my first computer build and i was wondering what your opinions of the components are (if everything works with everything else. I am looking to do some multitasking with encoding in the background, light to medium gaming and managing massive music libraries (250+ gigabytes of music) along with watching and encoding movies. I want this to be "future proof" at least for a little while. Upgrading it when i can in the future. I also have a few questions on water cooling. I also want this computer to run as cold as possible so any additional information is more then welcome. If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to tell me what you think. Or if you have a cheaper way of going about this please let me know. Thanks in advance.

My system Parts:

1 x NZXT Switch 810 (Full Tower Case) - 145.46 Amazon (Purchased)
1 x ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 - 178.99 - SuperBiiz

1 x XFX Pro 850 watt core edition power supply ATX - 119.99 Newegg
5 x NZXT Case Fans 140 mm - 9.99 Amazon (Purchased)
2 x NZXT Sentry 2 Fan Controller - 19.99 Amazon (Purchased)
1 x NZXT Kraken x60 - 109.99 Newegg
1 x NZXT Kraken x40 - 99.99 Newegg (Only if i can make a huge closed loop)
1 x NZXT Hue (Lighting, also why i picked white fans) - 28.19 Amazon (Purchased)
1 x ASUS Internal 24X SATA Optical Drive DRW-24B3ST/BLK/G (Black) - 22.19 Amazon (Purchased)
1 x Seagate 250 GB hard drive Sata II (Boot & App Drive) (Owned)
1 x Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive - 69.99 Newegg
1 x Seagate 2 TB Drive Sata II (Music & Video) (Owned)
1 x Seagate 1 TB External Drive (Backup) (Owned)
1 x Sapphire Radeon HD 7770 Ghz Edition 1 GB 128-Bit DDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 Crossfire Support (Will upgrade card later, suggestions are welcome) - 104.99 Newegg

My Watercooling Question:

Since i do want this to run cooler then hotter, i was wondering if you could take a NZXT Kraken x60 and a NZXT Kraken x40, and run one tube from the x60 to the cpu (top of the case), and run the other tube to the x40 (bottom of the case), and from there have one hose running from the x40 to the cpu and the other cpu one coming from the x60. Just to make one big loop lol. Is this possible to make it run even cooler, or would it not work like that? Also is it worth have the x60 fans on a controller or no?

Also does anyone know where to do a custom water cooling tutorial teaching someone how to build a water cooling system from scratch. Please and thank you, any information is much appreciated.

Thanks for your help, any advice is much appreciated.

Approximate Purchase Date: Over the course of 3 months

Budget Range: $1,300 or less.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Managing Massive Music Libraries (250+ Gigabytes), Gaming (Sims 3, Runescape - for my fiance), Microsoft Office (for work), Surfing the Internet, Multitasking while listening to music and watching videos.

Are you buying a monitor: No (Already have a certain older one, but still very exceptional)

Do you need to buy OS: No (Windows 7 Ultimate x64 bit or Vista Ultimate x64, don't really know yet just kind of depends, open to suggestions though)

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg, Amazon, & PC Part Picker (For suggestions and builds)

Location: Sioux City, Iowa 51104 United States of America

Additional Comments: Must be quiet, already have the following bought:
NZXT Switch 810 (Black)
NZXT Case Fans 140 mm x 5 (x4 Preinstalled)
NZXT Hue
NZXT Sentry 2 Fan Controllers x 2
ASUS DVD Burner
Rosewill 45 Piece Tool Kit

And Most Importantly I am building computer from scratch.

Thanks for the advice in advance.

all the CPUs function the same. you are doing something seriously wrong if i7s function completely differently from a AMD chips. both of them support the same things.

overclocking is a thing you decide right from the beginning. there is no reason to blow random cash and not make use of it. it just doesnt make sense

if you can return the items, id do so. it doesnt make sense to blow 200 bucks on a case that you will never use properly and put proper hardware inside. return the 1 and 250gb hard drives if possible. you are wasting energy, productivity speeds, and cash on something that is slower. as for the LEDs, i can care less, but it was unnecessary spending that you could have easily thrown towards something like a sound card (that...
this rig would be considered done right

-if you arent overclocking, getting a AMD CPU and a high end "cheap" watercooler will be completely useless to you.
-high end motherboards are a waste of time
-you dont need that much wattage unless you have high powered GPUs (which you dont and wont need) or if you are overclocking the amd platform (which now you arent)
-do not even bother with a large case and fancy lights unless you have money to blow or you have a rig above 1500 dollars (which you clearly do not)
-skip the array of drives. get a SSD for fast boots and to store your OS and games upon. applications also go here
-your other files can be throw to the 3tb drive. if you feel like you want to do a backup, be my guest
-light to medium gaming wont require much of a GPU. i chose a single 760 and it should last for what you are using it for. getting 7770x2 is stupid when its so low end
-motherboard box will have enough sata cables (or should). no need for extras or extremely long ones
-modem has a ethernet cable. use it. if you arent getting google fibre, a higher cat cable will do nothing

speaking of the GPU, if you are planning to buy a cheapo GPU now and get a better one later, you spend the same money as getting a more powerful GPU in the first place. there is no point of doing so

its not tech preference, its about performance. anything below 1500 dollars or anything below the maximum usable performance for a specific task, you shouldnt even bother with anything that decorates a pc.

and no. forget watercooling altogether. unless you are running a custom loop with a proper res, pump, tubing, fittings, and properly made CPU blocks and radiators, dont even look in that direction. you shouldnt to begin with as watercooling for the CPU alone is about 150 -175 and mainly, that money doesnt result in a large increase performance

Thanks for your response it really clears alot up. Maybe i will return that stuff. I dont know my boss has like 3 networks on i7 processor, even tho it doesnt run that much stuff physically, it freezes every other second and i hate it.

you are doing it wrong to use i7s for any type of server work. thats where a xeon processor and some high end networking cards come into place. i7s and fx chips are consumer grade for a good reason.

get a better networking card and throw it onto the server. it should help. onboard networking cards before haswell came out tend to have lower end realtek nics rather than proper intel nics

for server purposes and for work environments, one should always use server grade components never consumer. for home server uses, consumer parts (except for hard drives) are fine

still for your build, there is no reason to go with amd or anything unproportiate to the overall build

Well i took your advice on the solid state drives, and ordered 2 of them. I am also thinking about ordering one for the work computer since we dont use that much space on it, is there a way to do a drive clone (clone the entire drive, booting sequance, programs, drivers everything), as we do have alot of non-recoverable items on there programs and such, also how do you set your system to automatically back up, I'm thinking that i am going to take my external once i have removed all my files and use it as a back up drive externally.

i am assuming that you are buying one for your workplace computer and one for yourself. yes there are many ways to clone a hard drive and everything. acronis can do that for you here. acronis can help you do online automatic backups if you want

in order to clone a hard drive however you will need one of these
