This has been driving crazy for months. Firefox would often crash. I went through all their troubleshooting suggestions to no avail. Crashes were of
three types: plugin (e.g. flash), Firefox itself or XP would restart.
Here's what I have done:
1. Replaced the motherboard (memory slot problems)
2. Replaced bad memory modules - MEMTEST86 now runs w/o problems
3. Replaced the AGP graphics card.
4. Disabled all plugins and extensions in Firefox and Thunderbird
(Ran IE once and it eventual crashed)
There are no other cards installed in the system. It's an ASUS mb.
I'm running XP SP3. I've been building my own systems for decades
so I'm no novice at HW troubleshooting. But this is crazy.
My next two options are to
1. Reinstall XP ( a real pain

2. Change the CPU.
Is it possible that the CPU could be the problem? It's a 3.4 GHz P4.
I do have a couple of others lower speed ones.
