Hi.

I need to speed up this old Pavilion 521n for my niece, but am not sure if it will accept 1GB--two 512MB sticks--or not.

As far as I can tell, it has an ASUS A7V-VE board. Oddly enough, HP's site has what looks like conflicting memory max information.

Motherboard Specifications, ASUS A7V-VE (Columbia)
has Maximum Memory listed as 1GB
Also, HP Pavilion Desktop PCs - Motherboard Specifications, ASUS A7V-VE (Columbia) .

But, HP Pavilion 521n Desktop PC Product Specifications looks like it's saying 512MB RAM is the max.

A tag (sticker) on the board says:
"t230557-00065-m7a360-a02",
and another has:
"t230556-m7a360-a02-02325"...I couldn't find a brand-name printed on it.

Who knows if there's just a typo; or, perhaps there's a reason the motherboard specified max won't work on this P.C?

1GB, from what I found: http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Pavilion%20521n&Cat=RAM

Good luck!

Probably something along the lines of HP not having certified any DIMMs larger than 256MB on it and possibly not having support for more than that in their OEM BIOS.

In any case, that PC is much too old to be worth spending cash on new or even used parts for. If you happen to have a 512MB stick lying around, just try it and see what you get.
