PSU 8 pin cable missing a pin?

I just got a GTX 780 and it requires a 6 pin and 8 pin power. I have both, but on the 8 pin one it looks like one of the cords isn't there. Not like it fell out or anything, there's just no cable running there. I believe this is the end that should run from the PSU and the other end has a 6 pin plus a 2 pin part that connects to make the 8 pin. On that end, every pin is there.

Is this right?

it will work even if one of the yellow power wires were missing since 18AWG wire can support 100 watts, but i would like to suggest you get a better quality PSU.

I've seen some cheap manufacturers omit one of the ground pins on the PCIe connectors. These are usually found on low quality PSUs.

What is the make and model of that PSU?

That is just a ground pin not a 12V so should make no difference despite the quality issue in the PSU.

yes that is all very true but if they took a short cut with a connection, what would there be inside the unit?
OCZ 700W ModXStream Pro Power Supply
The Bottom Line

While we had high hopes for the OCZ 700W ModXStream Pro given OCZ's decent track record and the unusually low standards that other 700w units have set forth in our testing to date the OCZ 700W ModXStream Pro hardly lived up to its “Pro” moniker. The unit’s build quality was decent but the component selection was certainly questionable and in the end the unit was unable to complete our testing at full power.

No -- I agree that it is total kr@p and would not trust my components to it either, but the OP wants to take the risk and it is running for him so far.

Hopefully, the OCZ bankruptcy filing will finish off that product line, and Power PC & Cooling can become independent again.
