This is my first post asking on this website, I asked this on Yahoo answers telling me, "NO! YOU WILL HAVE TO BUY *Insert 1500 Dollar Graphics card here* WITH A *Insert expensive Brand name Intel Processor here* I'm not really asking for suggestions, My graphics card (nVidia Geforce 210) recently stopped working, and asked a friend if he could recommend a cheap replacement, he said A10 5800k, saying it was about 130 Dollars, and I took a look at it. I'm NOT looking for top of the line 1080p Quality Maxed out BF3 at Ultra running at 60fps. I just want to know if the APU is good, the most intensive game i even plan on playing it with is Arma II Operation Arrowhead (I like Wasteland :D) I was just wondering what settings I could play at, 25 Frames really feels alright to me in Arma, 17 was low, and I feel like 25 frames would work. Anyway, what settings could I play at, and what Framerate I can expect?

The A10 5800k with fast ram which u can get gskill sniper 2400mhz for $68 same as 1600 can play bf3 1080p medium at about 30+ish fps. It'll be a pretty good upgrade from the 210.

Whats ur current setup? and was ur 210 a 1gb or 512mb? I have a 1gb ddr2 210 and it got about 15fps on 720p bf3 all low lol
Honestly, the only 3 APUs that I would ever use are the A4-5300, the A6-5400K and maybe, in some situations, the A8-5600K. I just feel like when you get up to the A10-5800K, you might as well just get an AMD Athlon II X4 750K, along with either an HD 6670, an HD 7750 or an HD 7770 depending on your budget, and it will perform much, much better.

You should look at the latest version, the A10-6800K (which is apparently more optimized regarding power sharing between the CPU and integrated GPU).
I saw some tests, and if I remember correctly with this 6800K they were running BF3 in low settings at around 20+ FPS.

So I guess regarding your needs it should fit fine for an affordable price.
The A10-6800K is around 150$ : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113331

I played ARMA II with an A10 APU and got around 50-60 FPS on high. BF3 runs on medium at 30-40 FPS. One thing with the A10 is that you need to buy very fast RAM (the APU does not have it's own memory, it relies on system memory) you will get at least 10 more frames than with the standard 1600.

My old Setup was the Geforce 210 512 mb using 2GB DDR3 RAM. I recently bought 4 GB's of Corsair Vengeance. My Processor was an Athlon II x2 270u. I made it for a budget build to play small games, like Minecraft, and it got boring, so I bought ArmA, and still have fun on Wasteland. So if I get an APU, I would have it, with 4GB's Corsair Vengeance DDR3 RAM, and I will be using the APU's graphics.

The A10-5800k has a APU that is comparable to a GPU something between a 6450 and 6570.

I would assume that's playable for you. Also, there is a newer A10. A10-6800k:

The thing with A10 is that it is best for systems that are designed for low budget builds....like everything for $400 or less.
Also, adding a separate GPU isn't good cuz adding faster RAM is better. Instead of 1600 grab 2133. This helps an APU tremendously.

Whats ur budget because for about $100 more u can get a fx6300 or any other $120 ish priced cpu with a HD 7770 which will easily beat the apu, and is more upgradable.

Going with the apu will prob suffice for u as its still a good upgrade cpu and gpu wise, except 8gb is the sweet spot for most new games to be safe but 4gb will work fine. Also if ur ram 1600 or 1333 or higher? As i said the faster the ram the better the performance u will see from the apus integrated graphics. Forgot to mention the apus igpu uses the system ram so 4gb is prob cutting it close for windows/games/and the igpu to run.

Instead of buying new ram for speed and possibly going to 8gb from 4, u could do what i mentioned above and get a dedicated gpu and a fx6300/4300 or i3 with a 7770 and continue to use ur 4gb just fine. Only saying as the cpus mentioned cost around the apus cost and the 7770 is only slightly more than what it'd be for new ram.

The A10 is a rocking chip, one of the best features of this chip is the fact that the integrated gpu is decent enough to allow you the ability to spend more of your budget in other areas of the build. Then later on when you stroll into some more hard earned cash you can then throw down for a decent discrete graphics card. That was my personal approach. I was faced with building two identical rigs on a budget and thanks to the A10 I was able to use quality power supplies, ram, and extremely nice heatsinks so I can easily overclock them. The A10-5800K is painfully overclock friendly. Just don't attempt it with the stock cooler, don't even use that piece of garbage. I personally never use stock heatsinks. Anyways to answer your question about Arma 2, it zhould play it cranked no problem. Arma 2 is an older game now the A10-5800's gpu the HD 7660D scores similar to the HD 6670 so you could expect similar results. I recommend googling benchmarks for different games to get a better understanding. As others have mentioned ram speed does play a factor but buying anything over 1600 is defeating the purpose considering the increase in price, but could be something to upgrade later on when ram prices change.

I play dayz/overwatch/wasteland near every night on an a8 5600k, 720p low settings, it cost £70, 30-60fps. Arma 2 fps depends on the server, ask others in side chat, when I dip to 30 fps people with £££s intel hw get the same dips.
