Two different card for two different reasons

Hi there, I was wondering is it possible to run two different video cards on the same machine? one for gaming and the other for professional CAD rendering? I have an MSI z87 g45 Mobo and a Saphire 7970 with the 4770k i7 but am now using Cad software at school and looking at the AMD FirePro series. Is it possible to use the two different cards, while keeping both in the case all the time? I have no intent of using them together I just dont want to have to reach in and swap cards everytime I go from playing games to working or vice versa

Solution
What I would do is see how the 7970 handles the CAD software and see if you actually need a card like so. A workstation card can actually play games, as a gaming card can do workstation applications.

Its like the difference between a pickup truck and a SUV; they have different purposes.

That is the plan for right now, is it possible though to run two or would I have to create a workstation and or swap cards? I am not yet getting paid for CAD work (still in university) so its hard to justify dumping money into a legitimate workstation but I dont mind spending a couple hundred dollars on a graphics card if it makes my current work easier IF I can use it the way I want to! haha

Well, I use Solidworks on my Nvidia GTX460, and it seems to work great...if that helps you at all. Do careful research though before you go out and buy a workstation card.

Sorry I can't be of more help, I'm not that knowledgeable about workstation cards. I do know that high end Radeons are actually decent with these sort of things though.
