Hello, today I started my computer and out of nowhere the resolution was 600*800 and there where black bars around the screen. The resolution was easily fixed, but I can't remove the bars. Currently my PC shows 1080*1920 scaled down to the smaller part of the monitor. This came out of nowhere and I have no idea what could have caused this. I also updated my drivers, but it didn't change anything. I use an Asus Nvidia GTX670, an Intel I5 2400 and Windows 7. Thank you for your help, guys.

Thank you for your answers. I forgot to give you the name of my screen, it is a Samsung SyncMaster P2770HD. There is no Auto button and I coulnd't find a similar option. I checked the cables as well, everything is properly mounted and the cable goes in a straight line from screen to video card. If I use any function regarding only the screen, for example open the menu there are no bars anymore, but the image that is created by the computer is still not filling the whole place. One detail could be interesting: If I try to open ASUS GPU Tweak there pops up the following error message: "Fail to load dlls. Please install VGA driver." I hope this is useful and you can give me further assistance.

Thanks again, you are a true Good Guy Greg and I really appreciate your effort. I think that you are right and that my problem is that my graphics card is currently running under generic VGA drivers, but I still couldn't find a way to fix it. I have a "!" next to the name of my computer in the control panel hardware section and it says that there is an issue with the driver, but trying to install it with the assistant doesn't help. I already removed the Nvidia stuff several times and installed it again, without success. No matter what I do nothing changes, the PC always runs on the wrong drivers and has black bars. If I open the display adapter window there is no information about my graphics card at all, it simply isn't availible. Additionaly I coulnd't find the respective section in the BIOS. My next steps are to remove the GPU and build it into an old PC, I hope that I can verify whether I have a hardware issue that way-Edit: I tried it and everything runs perfectly well inside my old computer. I really hope we can solve this without reinstalling Windows.

I wanted to upgrade my CPU and mobo anyways and buy a SSD and since nothing worked I think now is a good time to do so. One last thing: Does Windows 8 bring recognizable performance improvements or should I stick to Windows 7?
