Hi, I'm building my own computer for the first time so I'm still reading up on everything.

What I know about processors and motherboards so far is that the processor socket type has to match the one on the motherboard for it to fit.

Here is the processor I have in mind is the "AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 9370 4.40Ghz". It is an AM3+. Therefore I have to choose a motherboard that has an AM3+ socket.

What's tripping me up is, the website I'm looking at has multiple AM3+ type motherboards:

AMD AM3+ (760G Chipset)
AMD AM3+ (970 Chipset)
AMD AM3+ (990FX/990X Chipset)

Does the chipset affect which motherboards I can use with my processor? Or is it just as long as the processor and the motherboard are AM3+, I'll be fine?

My next question is, my processor doesn't come with a heatsink so can someone suggest a heatsink for me to buy? I'm sorry if the heatsink bit is in the wrong section. As I said, I'm new here and to the whole building a computer thing. Do I have to choose a specific type of heatsink for this type of processor? Or do choose depending on the motherboard?

Thanks for reading. Any help is appreciated.

The FX-9370 has a very high TDP (Thermal Design Power) of 220 Watts and will only be compatible with a small number of motherboards that can dissipate that kind of power.

These are compatible motherboards:
GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD7
ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0
ASRock 990FX Extreme9
ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z

Recommended for cooling CPU:
CORSAIR Hydro Series H80i Water Cooler
