Games freezing, black screen, recover.

I just put together a new rig, and when I started playing games on it I keep on running into the same problem, every couple of hours of play time, the game will freeze for a couple of seconds, black screen, then return back to where it was before. Looking around I've seen some mention of a driver crash, but no real solutions. And I'm not sure if that is even the problem, my graphics cards are rather old and one of them isn't in the best condition, so it might be a hardware problem. Anyone have any insight?

ASRock 990FX Extreme9
AMD FX-4350 Vishera
3x HD 4850s
Seasonic M12II 850
8 GB of ram
WB 1T drive
Windows 7

This problem is generated a few ways.

1. Hardware failure on the graphics card.
2. Graphics card is getting too hot
3. Overclocking the video card failed.

The best way to troubleshoot something like this would be to try each of the graphics cards individually. I see you have 3x 4850s; try two-way crossfire and interchange card between benchmark sessions. Run something from Unigine, or 3DMark for a couple hours at a time.
