As the title says, I'm experiencing (semi-)random crashes and/or BSoD's on my computer, running Windows 7. I have dealt with the problem for some days now, but I can't really isolate the problem 100% myself, so I thought I wanted to ask at the forums.

SETUP:

My rig is around 14 months old. Specs are as follows:

AMD FX 8120, Black Edition
8 GB RAM, 1333/1600 MHz, Corsair
ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX
ASUS GTX 550 Ti, 910 MHz
120 GB SSD, OCZ Agility 3
Creative SoundBlaster Xtreme Audio

PROBLEM:
Random crashes/stalls/BSoD's, mostly when I surf the net with Firefox. I'm not sure if it triggers it, because I've experienced crashes without Firefox running, but not as much. Most of the time, the mouse and screen freezes, sound stutters in loop, keyboard unresponsive, and hard reset is needed. The appearance of BSoDs have only happened two times, with 0x116 and 0x07e / 0x0e7 (can't remember which). Event viewer has several entries, most of them with kernel-power (ID 41 critical) and EventLog (ID 6008 error). I can provide the logs if needed. I don't know what these mean, and the internet doesn't make me wiser on it.

Another thing is that my motherboard often does not recognize my mouse and keyboard, most often rejecting my mouse (USB). Then I have to plug it in over and over again, until power and connection is stable. This is kinda old for my rig, although lately it has become rather excessive.

MY THOUGHTS AND TESTS:
I suspect either the GPU/graphics card or the motherboard. Windows 7 is the usual OS I use, but the problems arise whether I install Ubuntu linux, or run with an older version of Win7, or a updated one. The same with BIOS/overclocking, settings doesn't matter at all, the problems persists regardless. I overclock a little, but only very little, and I never overvolt. I've stress tested my rig with several programs; CPU, RAM, GPU, and everything is tested to work 100%. Heat and airflow is not a factor, all temperatures are at a possible minimum or average. Drivers and firmware/BIOS is not a factor either, I have tested new as old ones. Formatted several times (virus not a factor either)

So, I think that sums it up.. Any thoughts? Please ask, if you guys need more info. :)

Problem is that the rig crashes/stall "so quickly" that the BSoD's can't make it. Only two BSoD's have appeared. WhoCrashed finds one of them:

Spoiler
crash dump file: C:\Windows\memory.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: Unknown (0x00000000)
Bugcheck code: 0x116 (0xFFFFFA800743A010, 0xFFFFF88004945E30, 0x0, 0xD)
Error: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR
Bug check description: This indicates that an attempt to reset the display driver and recover from a timeout failed.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error.

yeah if you already made sure you have the latest driver(completely uninstall the old driver) then trying another card if you have one would be the next step.

We (my friends and I) believe to have found the cause of error and a solution. To any Googler's who landed here; if you have the same problems as posted above, especially with kernel-power error ID 41, and freezes, restarts and/or crashes when using Firefox, there is a solution. Simply turn on "prefer maximum performance" in nVidia control settings for Firefox, instead of the standard "adaptive"-setting. This seems to solve the problem.

Ok so I just built a system for a friend and am having a similar problem I believe. I have the ID41 in my event viewer, now my previous problems arent in the viewer because Im on my 3rd windows install.

I have an I5-3570
Gigabyte R9 280X
Sabertooth Z77
and 16GB of G.Skill Trident X 1866Mhz

I noticed I had 2 crashes after trying to install "Asmedia SATA Controller," are you running that driver under your IDE controllers?

The other issue Im having is changing my RAM in BIOS, from 1333Mhz, which is what its recognized as. If I touch the setting, Windows crashes/wont start/cant be fixed, to where I have to do a reinstall.
Have you had similar issues?

I believe that the ID41 error can be because of several other problems than just the one in my case. We only had this problem when using Firefox, and you don't seem to be using Firefox at the time of your problems. I have not had those issues you mention, but I can recommend to look up the vendors/brands FAQ, and to update your motherboard BIOS/UEFI.
