I decided to take a nap today and I didn't hear any failing signs. Never did I hear any failing signs, the head writer never crashed. No matter how much times I switch cables, switch ports, switch the power to the HDD, it doesn't work.
However, rarely, very very rarely does my HDD work. One time when I got up and tried to fix it, it did work but froze at the windows loading screen ( the logo, I didn't get into the login screen ) and the other time I reached the recovery screen but, well...
I should confess that I never turn off my computer, neither do I make backups. It's a really bad habit. Plus, sleep mode refuses to work. explorer.exe ends when I log back in from placing my computer into sleep mode.
Is it dead in a way? It runs perfectly fine, nice boot-up sound and it hums like it's brand new.

Quick note: I don't care if I have to wipe the entire HDD, but that is the last resort.

Would that detect the hard drive? I'm currently creating a bootable MS-DOS flash drive
