I am a University Student studying media. Part of my course is Videography and I was told that I would need to get a firewire portable hard drive in order to handle all the back and forth video editing to and from the hard drive.

What is the advantage of a Firewire hard drive compared to USB 2 or 3? And where could I fine one thats at least a terabyte for hopefully less then $100?

If your options are Firewire or USB2.0, go with Firewire. But if you can, I'd definitely go USB 3.0 (http://www.everythingusb.com/comparison.html).

USB 3.0 option (if you're not as concerned with size, there's a huge sale on this 3TB external, a little bulkier, but video adds up fast, especially HD):

If you don't have USB 3.0 capable machines, here's a couple Firewire options:

I would recommend the 2TB option...as 1TB is gonna fill up really fast when you're talking about HD video.

Cheers!
