Best GPU that won't be bottlenecked by the Core 2 Duo 6300?

I have a friend who's birthday is coming up and I thought of buying him an actual graphics card to replace the god awful integrated GPU he currently has. He has a somewhat decent (I guess) CPU being the Core 2 Duo 6300. I would just like to know what kind of performance I can expect before the CPU starts to make my money worthless.

Tough to say. It would be good if you could overclock that CPU, but as it is I'd say a Radeon 7770 would be a decent match for that old CPU.

If you want to go nVidia this 650 has a nice rebate. Of course it's a step below the 7770 and thus less of a value before the rebate
