Hello, I have recently been thinking of building a gaming rig and trying to save up for it has been a bit of a struggle. Due to how long it might take to get the certain amount of money to get a brand new rig, i've been thinking about just adding new and better hardware to my current desktop. With my computers specs will it be able to run/handle a Radeon HD 7850 2GB if not then a Radeon HD 7790 1GB, if I were to get a brand new Corsair 500w PSU.
Thanks.
System Specs:
CPU: AMD Athlon TM X2 250 Processor 3.0Ghz
GPU: NVIDIA Geforce 6150SE nForce 430
RAM: 4 GB (3.75 use-able)
PSU: 220w (Already stated will change if needed for new installments)
Motherboard: M2N68-LA (Narra6)

My budget is 425$ to any new hardware going to this system until i have enough to build a new rig. If for some reason any of my specs can/will bottleneck new hardware I dont mind getting a new CPU, PSU, and GPU using the 425$ but would rather be avoided if possible. At a last note i would like to clarify that this is my first time building or making any computer hardware installments. Thanks for the help! :)

Solution
Your PC is the HP and if you buy the either HD7790 or 7850, then the old CPU will bottleneck. If you want upgrade CPU like AMD Phenom II X4 9xx/9xxe/8xx Quad-Core (Deneb, 95W TDP) but it will limit in the shop too. So you are better get the new CPU, MB, PSU, and GPU.

You can reuse the 4GB RAM (DDR3), HDD, DVD, or the case. I add the other PC case for you in case the old HP case does not fit. If the HP case do fit you can forget about it.

The total will be $379 after MIR with case ( $349 without case), if you are in USA. http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/

Thank you Cin for the great answer and help! one last question, I do not mind replacing the CPU, GPU, and the PSU, but do i need to replace the Mobo becauase compatibility or something of the sort. BTW im not looking to overclock just need a decent pc until i get a new one.

Because the old MB is AM3 socket, and you hard to find a good AM3 cpu, I add the link from newegg.com you can see what is going on, and I don't recommend to buy the 2nd hand CPU, also intel cpu is very good for games.

AM3 cpu from newegg.com http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007671%2050001028&IsNodeId=1&name=AMD

Motherboard Specifications: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c01925534#N117

From your MB spec., if you don't want to replace the old MB, you can get AMD Phenom II X4 or AMD II Athlon X4 with TDP 95W, check the link to see. When you get the new PC you can use the PSU and GPU too so that it will save money, good point.

Would just like to mention that your answers are very helpful and great. Anyway so the FX-6300 is a no go or is am3 the same as am3+, also if i were to get a new motherboard like the 970A-G43 would i lose my windows 7 install or anything else or does my hdd take care of that because i would hate to lose or mess anything up.
