I just got my new PC.
Specs :
CPU : Intel core i7 3770 3.4 GHz
GPU : Gigabyte gtx 770 OC 2GB GDDR5
Motherboard : GA-B75-D3H
Ram : 4GB DDR3 1600
PSU : Gamma HEC Power Supply 600W

But i get very low FPS ingame, i tried BF3 and the FPS is VERY low, i got HWinfo and saw the usage rate of the GPU, it was near 5% while all the 8 threads of the CPU were near 100%.

I downloaded Unigine heaven benchmark 4.0 to test the performance, the GPU delivered 99 % of power and the CPUs peaked at about 30% and the FPS was at the minimum of 40, however this state last only for a couple of minutes and the GPU usage reverts again to 0% usage and the CPUs rise to 100% and the FPS drops to 3~5

I have the latest driver installed, 320.49 and i've seen people on youtube using this driver without problems, i disabled the integrated graphics from the bios, and also tried a clean install of windows and still nothing.

I doubt it's the temperature because the GPU fall behind in different temp points each time, lowest being 62 and highest 70.

individual cores are 85~90 when idle 100 ~ 105 when using Unigine
however fro whole CPU it says 76 when idle and 96 when using Unigine

The only idea i have here :
- you GPU is overheating
- that leads to lower the CORE clock
- you load fall to 50% or under .........

Start Furmark Burn-IN test and keep track on you GPU CORE Clck
At the start it should jump to 100% as you load jump to 100%
If you see core clock & load goes down or jumping after some time then you GPU is overheating and it`s trying to protect it self for temp. failure.
Get some more cold air in the case
If the problem is there - GPU !

I don't think it's the temperature, the windforce fans in the Gigabyte gtx 770 are very good, at 1st the GPU clock was near 1200 MHz and temp was 70, after 4 mins the Clock was 1100 MHz and the temp was near 85 and rising.
after the test the fans got the GPU back to 50 in no time.

Also the GPU never lowered its load during the burn in test, unlike ingame or the Unigine.

And when i run BF3 the GPU doesn't even reach full load, it stays at 5% at temp 46

BINGO !
76 degree in IDLE ????
96 degree in load ?????
I have 40 idle and 50 -55 on load .......

But that's the CPU, the problem is the CPU is the only thing that's working, the GPU is low temp, has the power it needs and still doesn't deliver.

Intel CPUs throttle themselves at 100C.
Your telling us your temperature in Celsius right?
What kind of CPU cooler are you using?

Yes the temp is in celsius, i'm using the fan that came with it.

I just tried leaving the Unigine running for a while after the load drops, I noticed that the Core voltage drops from 1.200 V to 0.850 V after about a minute after the core load drops to 0%.
Does that mean the PSU is not powerful enough?

It could be. Your PSU isn't even 80Plus certified.
Does the cpu cooler seem tight and secure to the CPU?
A high idle temp would be something like 45C thats pretty much no AC at all. 76C at idle is telling me something is wrong with your CPU cooling. You might need to reseat it. If you have some thermal paste around I would, clean the CPU and stock cooler with rubbing alcohol, rub all the paste off, apply your other paste with a plastic card (credit card). Re-check temps.

The PSU is 80PLUS, I think the CPU temp is another standing issue on its own, i don't think the CPU temp is affecting the GPU.

Your CPU is way to high. Needs to come down. The GPU isn't going fast enough because the CPU is throttling itself so it doesn't burn up. Problem will fix itself if the temps come down.

Total disagree here !
If you don`t get you CPU under 50 degree on IDLE you have PROBLEM and you system never work like it should ......
Check you CPU heatsink for misplaced
Check you CPU temp
That`s the problem here !

Yea, your GPU is acting pretty normal, reaching the right temperatures. Your CPU is whats slowing down, causing your GPU to follow suite.

It turned out that the CPU cooler was misplaced (one of the clips was loose), as soon as i installed it properly the CPU temp became normal again, and it no longer bottlenecks the GPU, and everything ran fine.
