My computer has a small and really noisy heatsink fan that is inside the radiator. Can I disable this and add larger fans against the radiator block? Thank you in advance.

Solution
Is it an after market cooler? or it came with your computer?

Well, if you can add larger fans on the heatsink then do to be more quiet, just don't leave your CPU without cooling otherwise it will burn haha.

Thanks all for the replies. It is dated alienware core2duo. I am a newbie and just did not know if the heatsink fan inside the block of fins was vital. I plan to unplug the fan and leave it where it is, instead of actually removing the heatsink. I have 2 120mm fans that I'll zip tie to the block.

After you are done, check carefully your temperatures for a while to be sure the cooling is ok and your CPU is not overheating.
For example use the software RealTemp to do so, and try to stress your CPU a bit (running a stress test software like prime95 or so) to load it at 100% and see if your temperatures are not too high.

If it doesn't work well (temperatures are high), you can always buy another CPU Fan cooler for very cheap, such as this one that works very fine : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099
