I currently have a 460w power supply in my computer, and want to upgrade to a Radeon 7850. After talking to Dell three times finally the third person told me that I could put a higher wattage power supply in my computer, though the guy that I talked to at Dell said that the current supply should be sufficient. I would just like confirmation in this regard, as it took me three times of talking to them to get them to tell me that I could upgrade my PSU with no problems.

The question is, could a 460w PSU handle a 7850, if I don't overclock.

You would be absolutely fine with a 460w PSU. Although what worries me is that because it's a Dell machine, I can't comment on the quality of the power supply.

A standard rig will consume around 250w with the card in, I'd say go for it and upgrade the PSU if you feel necessary or want to feel a bit safer.

To be frank, yeah. (A 7850 req.'s a 500W psu but a 450-460W would do depending on the Total system wattage).
What is the brand of ur psu? Do you have an OEM system?then the psu would not be that good. Just check the total power wattage of ur system and then see how much wattage are u left with. TDP of an hd7850 is 130-140W. you should get a branded psu.Give the details of ur psu.One more thing, does ur psu have a 6-pin pci-e power connector?A 7850 requires a 6pin connector.
