My i7 3770k is running too high for my preference.

I have a Noctua NH-U9B SE2 with two fans in push/pull configuration, two 120mm intake fans and no exhaust fan.

The processor is running at stock 3.5GHz with TurboBoost disabled, I should mention disabling TurboBoost made no discernible difference to temperature.

According to HWMonitor idle temperatures fluctuate between 30 and 40 degrees C, whilst gaming temperatures hit around 72 to 78 degrees C.

Are these temperatures acceptable? They seem a little high to me, considering there's a pretty beefy air cooler on that CPU.

Thanks

EDIT: I put one of my front 120mm fans in the rear and my temperatures have dropped dramatically, CPU maxed out at a chilly 61 degrees C! Thanks to everybody who answered, you helped me out a lot and you answered far quicker than I ever expected! :D

With a Noctua NH-U9B SE2 heatsink installed, load temperature hits 78 degrees C ? How much you overclocked and overvolted. If everything is at stock settings then that temperature is a bit high for me. You may ensure that CPU has no contact problems with the heat sink and the fan is running normally......

The processor is not overclocked/overvolted at all, completely stock. The heatsink is seated fine, but when I replaced the stock heatsink, I didn't use isopropyl alcohol to remove the residual thermal compound, I just removed it with a lint-free cloth, could that be affecting the temperature?

I assume a dGPU is a discrete GPU? If so, yes, I have a Gigabyte Windforce x2 GTX 660 OC, which maxes out between 65 and 70 degrees C. My room temperature is about 70-71F, probably I bit lower most days(I live in the North of England and typically have my window open), my PC is a fairly open space, there's plenty of room for intake air to come from and exhaust air to go to. I don't have speedstep, I've never heard of it, I'm assuming from what you've said it downclocks when idle, I'll give it a try and put an exhaust fan in and get back to you.

EDIT: I installed an exhaust fan and played a few rounds on BF3, max temperature was 61 degrees C on CPU and 64 degrees C on GPU, idle temperatures are about 20-30 degrees C on both. Thanks for your help!
